Governor requests additional review of state salaries

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Governor Terry Branstad wants a further review of state salaries.

He hopes the review would address gender pay equity and competitiveness concerns.

A new database shows Iowa employed nearly 33,000 women last year with a median salary of $46,000.  That's 91 percent of the median salary of $50,000 for the 27,000 men in state government jobs.

The governor will begin talking with state employee unions next month to make efforts on new contracts scheduled to go into effect by July 2013.
