House District 63 candidates talk economy

House District 63 is a newly drawn district with the territory being upper Black Hawk county and Bremer county.

The race is between democrat Bill Heckroth and republican Sandy Salmon.

District 63 is new, but for both of these candidates they say they would look forward to serve the district.

Heckroth has already served in the Iowa Senate from 2006 to 2010.

Heckroth did run for another term in 2010, but got beat by Senator Bill Dix.

As for Salmon she ran in 2010 for Iowa House District 18 and came in 2nd in a three way primary.

She then served as a clerk for Senator Dix.

Both Heckroth and Salmon are passionate on multiple issues, but say the economy are top of mind when talking to voters.

"I think the best way to do that is keep our state budget under control to keep the spending reigned in so the pressure to raise taxes doesn't continues to increase," said Salmon.

"Whether they are current businesses or businesses that want to expand they look at the work and say what is the work force availability and if we don't have young people coming with families we aren't going to have that work force," said Heckroth.
