City of Waverly prepares for snow after mild winter

After a mild winter across the state, cities have begun preparing for the cold weather.

The City of Waverly has more than 500 tons of leftover salt from last winter.

"I was able to budget a lot less this upcoming winter for salt so it'll help in the long run," said Public Services Superintendent for the City of Waverly Brian Sullivan.

Sullivan said a ton of salt costs approximately $72. But with more than 500 tons already on hand, he didn't have to order as much this year.

"It's nice to have some on hand, and when we get an early snowstorm, we can go out right away," he said.

Sullivan said street workers will start putting together equipment practicing snow routes as early as next week in case of an early snowstorm.

"This way as soon as we get a report of a storm coming, we're ready to roll," he said.
