DUBUQUE (KWWL) -
Community members with Dubuque's Washington Neighborhood have established a fund in the name of weekend shooting victim, 15-year-old Marlon Barber Jr.
Laurie Bartolotta, with the Washington Neighborhood group, said the community has done this "with sincere sympathy and with the hope that we will not ever have another tragedy like this happen again in our neighborhood."
She said neighbors there "know there is nothing we can do to replace the loss of a son, a friend, a helper. It is not up to us to solve the crime or judge those involved but to help those who mourn this devastating event."
To help defray costs associated with the death, community members set up the fund, to which anyone can contribute at any Dubuque Bank and Trust branch.
In the Washington neighborhood, there are DB&T locations at 1398 Central Avenue and 2201 Jackson Street.
