Decorah whips Maquoketa 35-0 in playoff game shortened by lightning


Top ranked Decorah opened the playoffs at home with a 35-0 victory over 5-4 Maquoketa in a game that was shortened by lightning.

The Vikings Josey Jewell opened the scoring with a short touchdown run to make it 7-0 Decorah in the second quarter.

Decorah forced a Cardinal turnover. Maquoketa quarterback Trent Bollman was stripped in the backfield on his own 20 Decorah's Andy Hovden recovered it. The Vikings converted the turnover for another touchdown to make it 14-0.

Decorah quarterback Collin Nimrod threw two touchdown passes to tightend Michael Peter. The score was 35-0 Decorah with 9 minutes left in the 4th when lightning brought the game to a premature end.

The powerful Vikings move on 35-0.
