Fire displaces family of 5 in Oelwein

Two parents and three children are getting help from the Red Cross after a fire.

The fire happened at 907 West Charles Street in Oelwein shortly before noon on Monday.

Firefighters say smoke was coming from a second story window when they arrived. Rescuers located the fire in a bedroom on the second floor. Nobody was in the house.

There is severe fire damage to the second floor, including heat and smoke damage. There is smoke and some water damage on the first floor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
