The battle for sole possession of third place in District 4 had the St. Ansgar Saints take on the Denver Cyclones. Both teams have already qualified for the postseason, and wanted to end their regular season strong.
The Denver Cross Country girls and boys teams were honored at the beginning of the game, both are headed to state as District Champs.
The Denver Cyclones football team looked state playoff ready on their opening possession. The Cyclones started on the 50 yard line and Chase Shedenhelm takes it 25-yards down the left side of the field running over some Saints along the way. Four plays later number 8 Von Steck sticks it in the corner of the end zone from 10-yards out and the Cyclones take the early 7-zip lead.
The Saints come right back a few minutes later. Kyle Hanson breaks free and will go untouched 38-yards for the touchdown. The extra point was good and the game was tied.
At the start of the second quarter, and 2nd play of the drive Kyle Hanson gets the ball again and finds a hole and will sprint his way to pay dirt. He will go 82-yards to the house and just like that the Saints lead it 14 to 7.
Only a couple minutes later, the St. Ansgar Saints add one more touchdown from Bret Williams from one yard out.
Denver tacks on a 34-yard field goal right before the half from Brayden Neuendorf making the score 20-10 Saints.
St. Ansgar would hold on for a close one winning 27-22 over the Denver Cyclones.
