Regina stays perfect, takes #1 seed into the playoffs

Posted:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

It was a good tune-up for a run at a third straight state title.

Iowa City Regina jumped on Sigourney-Keota early, and never looked back, pounding the Savage Cobras 49-7 and finishing the season perfect.

The Regals got going on their first possession.  Riley Dixon scored on an 11 yard run to stake Regina off to a 7-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, quarterback Mark Ward turned a broken play into an eight yard touchdown.  The Regals were up 14-0 after one.

In the second quarter James Howe scored on a yard play.

Then right before the end of the half, Ward hit Matt Streb on a short pass, and Streb did the rest, making a couple of cuts and going 26 yards to the endzone.

Regina will host a playoff game as the #1 seed Wednesday.
