House Speaker John Boehner campaigns for Romney in Coralville

CORALVILLE (KWWL) -

The Coralville Victory Office was filled with people who wanted to see the Speaker of the House in person, campaigning for Mitt Romney.

"It's reassuring to have so many other people supporting him," said Rich Clinite of Coralville.

In a short speech, John Boehner told the audience electing Romney this fall is an important step towards improving the American economy.

"Governor Romney keeps bringing the issue back to the economy and outlying his plan to improve our economy," said Boehner.  "Where was the President's vision for improving our economy?"

Boehner's trip to Iowa wasn't just a boost for Romney - he also put his support behind local congressional candidates.

"We have to pick a leader who understands what it takes to grow this economy," said John Archer, (R) Iowa's Second Congressional District.  "Governor Romney is that leader and I'm that leader as well.

The speaker reminded the audience of the importance of voting and asked them to make sure their friends also vote.

"The polls over the last couple of weeks have improved markedly," said Boehner.  "But I'll just tell you this. Elections aren't won or lost based on what the polls say. They're won and lost based on who shows up to vote. And that means that we've got to get our friends and our neighbors out."

Speaker Boehner did not take any questions from the audience, but did walk through the crowd to shake hands before attending a campaign fundraiser for Republican First Congressional District Candidate Ben Lange.

Republican officials say they expect Mitt Romney will be back in Iowa before election day to campaign but did not give any further details.
