Hogs killed in rollover semi crash

BREMER COUNTY (KWWL) -

Dozens of animals died after a semi tipped on its side in Bremer County Wednesday morning.

It happened on Highway 218 near mile marker 199 -- just south of the business exit into Waverly.

The Iowa State Patrol says the semi blew a tire, and crossed over the northbound lanes into the ditch.  Luckily no other cars were involved, and no one hurt.

The semi, from Frechette Trucking in Janesville, Minnesota, was hauling 150-160 hogs.

The trooper we spoke with said there could have been 30 animals dead.
