CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The final Honor Flight from the Eastern Iowa Airport for 2012 departed Tuesday morning.

Almost 90 veterans mixed between World War II and the Korean Conflict headed to Washington D.C.

They will take a journey through time as they visit the memorials built in their honor.

One guardian and veteran pair share a special bond. Dustin Graves's grandfather is Veryln Hansen. Hansen served in the Vietnam War and Graves just return home from serving in Iraq.

"I have served so I can kind of understand their experiences. A lot of them have probably been through a lot more then I have, but it's still great to listen to them and share that moment with them," said Graves.

"I'm excited to have a grandson like that. He sort of followed in my footsteps when he went into the army," said Hansen.

The veterans should be back in Cedar Rapids between 10 and 10:30 Tuesday night.
