Hawkeye hosts the first farm open house

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Despite the wet morning, Hawkeye Community College hosted its first open house at the farm laboratory on Hammond Avenue in Waterloo Saturday.

People were invited to tour the 200 acre farm as well as have first-hand experience with farm animals and equipment. Visitors were able to touch, feed and pick up piglets, sheep, and even calves.

The farm is an essential hands-on tool for students in the agricultural majors at Hawkeye, allowing them to work with farm animals and farm equipment in an academic environment. The college is hoping to turn the open house into an annual event.
