Ultra Marathon in Cedar Falls offers new challenge to runners

Posted:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A rainy Saturday morning did nothing to hold back a group of runners looking to challenge the trails around Cedar Falls. About 50 participants competed in the first ultra-marathon held in the Waterloo Cedar Falls area.

Runners had the choice to compete in the 25K race or the 50K race that took runners through both paved and unpaved trails in George Wyth State Park, Hartman Reserve Nature Center and ending in Gateway Park. The 50K race equals about 31 miles. An ultra-marathon is any race that is longer than a marathon which is 26 miles.

Organizers are hoping to make this an annual event.
