Two years ago North Tama won a Class-A State Championship under the leadership of Brent Thoren. Earlier this year, Thoren took over as head coach of his alma mater Grundy Center. Thoren and his Spartans try to keep their playoff hopes alive against a Red Hawk team unbeaten in district play.
First year Red Hawk head coach Dan Oltman had his players ready to take on their old coach. Three plays into their first offensive possession and Jacob Wrage finds Mitchell Boerm wide open down the left side line and no one is going to catch him as he finds the end zone for a 63-yard touchdown. 7-zip Red Hawks in the first quarter.
Spartans would be forced to punt after their second offensive possession and 8 plays later Wrage performs the option to perfection pitching it to Dalton Hulme who runs for 15-yards. 2-plays later Wrage gives the ball to Hulme and Hulme would take it in from 10-yards out putting the Red Hawks on top 14 to zero.
Then late in the second quarter, Wrage pulls the triger on 3rd and 14 from the 39-yard line and connects with Hulme wide open in the middle of the field. Hulme would take it in for his second T-D of the night. 21-zip at the half. The game would be called because of lightning with a little more than five minutes left on the clock. Red Hawks win it 33 - 0.
