OELWEIN (KWWL) -

The Oelwein Community School District is dealing with another blow. Just three weeks after a student took his own life, a teacher has died in a car crash.

Cynthia Fox taught spent 20 years as an art teacher in Oelwein, most recently at the middle school teaching 6th-8th grade students.

She was on her way to school Friday when she crashed with a truck and spreader. Fox died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, 55-year-old Mark Rechkemmer, was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Authorities say his condition was unknown on Friday evening.

"Anytime you have tragedies like this, it feels like you got punched in the stomach. So there's that knot in there today. A lot of close relationships with many of the faculty, and middle school where she spent most of her career, " Oelwein superintendent Steve Westerberg said of Fox.

Daniel Childers had Fox as a teacher in middle school.

"She really inspired me," he said.

Childers and the rest of the Oelwein football team had a moment of silence before Friday's game, the team's last home game of the 2012 season.

"She would probably be in the stands since it's our last game," Childers said.

Funeral services for Fox are pending.
