The Iowa Pork Producers Association has picked the winner of its Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Contest. After six months of judging, Breitbach's Country Dining in Balltown will receive $500 and a plaque.
Mike Breitbach is the fourth generation of Breitbachs to own and run the establishment. He says as many as 200 pork tenderloin sandwiches are sold each week.
The Iowa Pork Producers Association received 993 nominations for best tenderloin this year. 65 restaurants received the required three or more nominations to be considered for the contest.
The tenderloins are judged on taste, appearance and physical characteristics.
Breitbach's is Iowa's oldest bar and restaurant, and is still in business despite falling victim to two fires in a year. It caught fire and burned to the ground Christmas Eve 2007, then caught fire again the following October.
