DES MOINES (KWWL) -
Former kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart visited Des Moines Thursday, offering words of hope to parents of two missing eastern Iowa girls.
Smart was kidnapped from her home in Utah in 2002. After an extensive nine month investigation, she was found and her kidnappers were arrested.
Smart shared her story at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, and says her mom offered her the best advice after her kidnapping.
"She told me the morning after I came home from being kidnapped. She said how this man had stolen nine months of my life and that I would never get it back and he's terrible and he's wicked and evil and there aren't words to describe how bad he is, but the best punishment I could ever give him is to be happy," Smart said.
