Former Jell-O wrestling organizer disappointed in recent video

A Cedar Falls High School graduate, who claims he created a Jell-O wrestling tradition in 2008, said he's disappointed with the recent surfacing of a YouTube video called, "Jello Wrestling 2012 Highlights."

In the 9-minute video, multiple girls were seen fighting each other in a pool of Jell-O. The video reached thousands of views before being removed from YouTube by the page owner on Tuesday night.

Matt Hart said he organized the first Jell-O wrestling match in 2008 with one goal in mind: to have fun and "let off some steam" during homecoming week.

"We didn't want each other to get hurt. We didn't want each other to be embarrassed in front of everybody there and in front of everybody on the Internet," said Hart.

Hart added that participants would not be subjected to take off their clothes and no fights broke out under his organization of the event.

"Once someone was out of the pool, that was it," he said.

Hart said he can't help but feel somewhat responsible for starting what he remembers as a fun tradition. After watching the 2012 highlights originally posted on YouTube, Hart shook his head in disbelief that the once fun tradition had become what he described as violent.

"I saw a girl clearly get punched in the jaw," he said. "It's really disheartening."

Hart admitted it was "cool" to see his Jell-O wrestling tradition had continued after he graduated, but said he is disappointed in how the event has been carried out.
