Alex Karras, an Iowa Hawkeye great who also gained fame in the NFL and later as an actor, has died. He was 77.
Karras' attorney, said Karras died at home in Los Angeles on Wednesday, surrounded by family.
Detroit drafted Karras 10th overall in 1958. He was a four-time All-Pro defensive tackle and played 12 seasons with the Lions.
Karras later had an acting role in the 1980s sitcom "Webster."
Alex Karras had been suffering from dementia. He was among the more than 3,500 NFL players suing the league regarding the treatment of head injuries.
