House District 67 candidates face off in forum

HIAWATHA (KWWL) -

As election day draws closer more candidates are going head to head in forums.

In Iowa's new House District 67, Republican House Speaker Kraig Paulsen is being challenged by Democrat Mark Seidl.

The district covers Marion, Hiawatha, Robins, and part of northeast Cedar Rapids.

The candidates shared their beliefs on education funding, green energy, and whether Iowa should accept additional federal funding for Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act.

"The federal government has a, just a horrible history of actually following through on those commitments and in this case they actually are telling us that money is going to go away," said Paulsen.

"You would insure 183,000 Iowans at an annual expense of $161 per person," said Seidl.  "I wish I could get that kind of insurance."

Paulsen is serving his fifth term in the House.

His current district covers many of Linn County's smaller towns.

Seidl is a lawyer.

He ran unsuccessfully for House District 37 in 2010.
