ISU stuns #15 TCU 37-23

Posted:

Josh Lenz had the game of his life contributing on 4 touchdowns as Iowa State shocked 15th ranked TCU 37-23.

Iowa State's Jared Barnett was given the nod for his first start of the year, and Barnett responded by hitting Lenz on a 51 yard touchdown strike on the first drive of the game.  The 2 connected again a few series later on a 74 yard bomb that would give the Cyclones a 16-10 halftime lead.

Iowa State again put together a great opening drive in the second half capped by a one yard reception by Lenz, his third touchdown of the day.  The junior receiver showed off his arm in the 4th, hitting Ernst Brun on a reverse pass for a 15 yard touchdown.

Defensively, the Cyclones shined as well.  Facing back-up quarterback Trevone Boykin, due to the suspension of starter Casey Pachall, the Cyclones forced 5 turnovers.  Two big ones put it away in the end.  Defensive end David Irving knocked down a pass to himself and took it 20 yards for a pick six to cap the scoring.  Senior linebacker Jake Knot grabbed a pick in the final 2 minutes to put the game away.

Iowa State's win ended TCU's winning streak, the longest in the nation at the time, at 12 in a row.  It was the Cyclones first win over a top 15 team on the road since 1977.
