Hundreds take part in Pink Ribbon Run in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A cold start didn't slow down hundreds of people raising money for breast cancer awareness and support in Cedar Falls.

In the 6th annual Pink Ribbon Run, people could walk or run 3.1 miles which included a new scenic route along the Cedar River and through downtown Cedar Falls.

All proceeds go to the Beyond Pink TEAM, a local breast cancer coalition dedicated to providing community support and help with practical expenses to those battling breast cancer.

"If somebody was newly diagnosed and they came out and they saw a woman walking around with a neck full of beads and the beads represented one year of survivorship then that would make her see, 'Look, I can beat this. I can live with cancer and I can make it past it'," said committee member Gabbi DeWitt.

Organizers expect to raise around $20,000 from this year's event.
