Dike-New Hartford jumped from #4 to #2 this week in the Class 1A poll. The Wolverines have only given up 33 points in six games, while winning by an average of 33 points a game. They kept this streak alive facing off against Hudson Friday night, who was looking to keep its playoff hopes alive coming in with a 3 and 3 record.
Seventh play of the game and the Wolverines defense sacks the Pirates quarterback Connor Simpson, which sets up Wyatt Syhlman for a blocked punt. The Wolverines recover on the Pirates 19-yard line.
Four plays later, Levi Lynch takes it up the middle for the touchdown. The extra point made it 7-zip Dike-New Hartford with 7:54 left in the first quarter.
The defense of both teams would duke it out for much of the first and second quarters until the Pirates finally started moving the ball from their own seven on the back of Connor Wrage. Their 14-play drive stalled on the Wolverines 28-yard line.
Eight plays later, Carson Parker of Dike-New Hartford finds Wyatt Syhlman over the middle for a 18-yard completion. Three plays later and 33 seconds before the half, Parker finds Syhlman again with a beautifully thrown ball into the end zone.
The extra point made it 14-zero at halftime and the Wolverines would roll in the second half, beating the Pirates 42 to 6.
