Upper Iowa University has appointed a new acting president.

Upper Iowa University announced Friday that the university's president Doctor Alan Walker has been granted a sabbatical for this academic year.

UIU says he will plans to spend this time reading, conducting research, and spending time with friends and family.

His sabbatical will end at the end of June 2013.

Doctor Richard Patrick is appointed the acting president.

Patrick has been serving as dean of faculty since 2009 and has been directly involved in the university's day-to-day operations.
