It took investigators several years to make an arrest in the Evelyn Miller murder case.
Authorities announced the charges Thursday against Casey Frederiksen, who was watching over Evelyn the night she disappeared in 2005.
He's charged with murder and sexual abuse.
Frederiksen was immediately a suspect, and months after Evelyn's body was found, her frustrated mother Noel spoke out about the focus on her live-in boyfriend.
"They were just keeping a closed mind only Casey had something to do with it I think. They thought it was an open and shut case because they kept questioning him and saying that history says it's always the non-biological parent," she said in a 2005 interview.
Without a murder weapon, DNA evidence or witnesses, investigators didn't have enough evidence to charge Frederiksen. But prosecutors say while serving a federal sentence on child porn charges, he implicated himself in Evelyn's murder by talking about details never released to the public.
Authorities, meanwhile, have tried to contact Noel Miller to tell her about the murder charge against Casey Frederiksen, but have not been able to reach her.
