On Thursday afternoon agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation and Floyd County Sheriff's Office charged Casey Frederiksen in the 2005 death of 5-year-old Evelyn Miller. Frederiksen is charged with Murder in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. Both are Class "A" felonies.

On July 1, 2005 Noel Miller, Evelyn's mother, reported her daughter was missing. Noel said she had just returned to her apartment in rural Floyd after working a night shift and noticed her daughter was not there. Noel's boyfriend at the time, Casey Frederiksen was watching Evelyn and the couple's two other children. At the time, Frederiksen told law enforcement he last saw Evelyn around 2:00 in the morning.

A massive search was organized to search for the girl, but was called off on July 6, 2005 when two kayakers discovered Evelyn's body in the Cedar River between Charles City and Floyd. Details about Evelyn's murder were never told to the public or Evelyn's family.

On July 7, 2005 an autopsy was performed on Evelyn Miller's body. The assistant state medical examiner ruled the manner of death as homicide. The cause of death was sharp force injuries, which were also found on her neck. There was also evidence of a sexual assault.

During these past seven years investigators continued to receive information that lead them to believe that Frederiksen was involved in Miller's death.

During the authorities investigation, child pornography was discovered on Frederiksen's computer. He was charged with that crime in federal court and pled guilty to those charges He is currently serving time in a Marion, Illinois prison. According to a criminal complaint - during his incarceration, Frederiksen told fellow inmates incriminating statements:

In November of 2006 Frederiksen told an inmate that he had been molesting Evelyn since she was a little girl and continued to do so until her disappearance. In October of 2007 Frederiksen told an inmate that Evelyn's body was found with her clothes on.  This information was never released by authorities.

In the summer of 2009, Frederiksen was at Bremer County jail when he received his indictment on federal drug charges. Federiksen laughed and said, "Get away with murder and still do life."

Authorities will now be working to get Frederiksen back to Floyd County to face these new charges. No court date has been set.
