A North Liberty woman faces an arson charge after police say she tried to start her apartment on fire Tuesday night.

Officers were called to an apartment at 45 West Jefferson Street in North Liberty at about 9:21 p.m. Tuesday night for a report of a woman who lit her apartment on fire.

When officers arrived, they found that 55-year-old Colette Ann Prybil had used burners on the stove to light things on fire.  Officers say Prybil admitted to starting the fire as an attempt to take her own life and knew that she was putting the lives of other people at risk.

Police say Prybil also had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

Police say that they were called to the same apartment on Monday afternoon and found several burnt pill bottles on the stove.  They say she admitted to trying to start a fire in that incident as well.

Prybil faces one count of first degree arson and one count of reckless use of fire.
