WATERLOO (KWWL) -

One more business in the Cedar Valley has caught the Blue Zones spirit.

The Blue Zones Project is a program aimed at maintaining and improving upon healthy lifestyles in select communities.  Communities in the program will be given additional resources to help residents improve on physical fitness.

Veridian Credit Union was named Waterloo's first Blue Zones certified organization.

94 percent of the company has signed the pledge to live a healthier life.

Jean Trainor, CEO of Veridian, says they have seen a difference in their employees since the Blue Zones concepts were introduced.

"Our employees, many of them, have lost significant weight, they are exercising regularly, they are really understanding the importance of being healthy and it really helps and makes a difference in our health care costs," said Trainor.

Veridian Credit Union says they have implemented running-walking clubs as well as sponsoring sporting events like volleyball and basketball.
