CFU certified as Cedar Falls' first Blue Zones work site

The Blue Zones movement continues to gain momentum in Cedar Falls.

On Tuesday, Cedar Falls Utilities was certified as the first Blue Zones work site in the city.

Through a combination of employer actions to create a healthy workplace and employee participation, CFU was recognized as the first work site by Blue Zones officials.

A spokesperson for CFU says the company has been engaged with the Blue Zones initiative since process began about a year ago.

Officials with CFU say they hope their company can set a good example for other businesses in the area.

"Hopefully other companies in the Cedar Valley will look at the opportunities to create a difference for their employees. Not only at work where they're spending so many hours of their day, but how they can take that back home and implement it into their personal lives," said CFU Employee Training and Communications Specialist, Lori Hoffmann.

CFU has shown long standing support for wellness programs. They even have a wellness center located on their grounds. Employee participation is a requirement for worksite certification.
