Teens arrested for allegedly making bomb threats at Iowa City Regina

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Two teens have been arrested for making bomb threats to Iowa City Regina Catholic Education Center in two separate incidents.

Iowa City police say that two boys, 15-years-old and 17-years-old, are charged with first degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor, in connection with the threats that were made on August 20 and September 19.

On August 20, police were called to the school at 8:56 a.m. for a threat which said a bomb had been placed in the school.  A search of the building was done and no bomb was found.

Then, on September 19 at 12:14 p.m., a caller said that he would come into the school with a bomb on his body if the school did not give money.  Investigators worked with the Regina administration to determine a possible suspect.

Two Regina students were arrested on Friday and charged in connection with the threats.

Police say they are still investigating and believe a third person, not affiliated with the school, may have been involved.

The school was forced to cancel two days of class, adding additional days to the end of the school year, and also incurred monetary expenses in relation to the incidents.  A total cost is still being calculated.

According to Iowa Code, an aggravated misdemeanor is punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of between $625 and $6,250.
