Iowa gas prices dip slightly

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

There's a bit of good news when it comes to gas prices this week.  Average retail prices at Iowa pumps have fallen four cents a gallon in the past week, and are now averaging $3.82 per gallon.   That compares with the national average that has fallen 4.3 cents a gallon in the last week, to an average of $3.81, according to gasoline price website IowaStateGasPrices.com.

Of course this small dip is little relief in the big picture, where the price at the pump currently stands 31.1 cents per gallon higher than this same day one year ago and are 14.3 cents per gallon higher than just one month ago.  The national average has increased 8.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 29 cents per gallon higher than this time in 2011.

"Oil prices were all over the map last week, closing in on $100/bbl one day and dropping to $92/bbl later in the week.  I've probably had more double takes watching oil prices in the last week than I've had all summer," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said.
