Obama Fest encourages early voting in downtown Waterloo
WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Many of President Barack Obama's supporters gathered in downtown Waterloo to promote early voting. Dozens of people attended "ObamaFest" in Lincoln Park. Organizers called it a chance to celebrate Waterloo's diversity.
Volunteers and area politicians served up free food. They were also encouraging people to register to vote and to vote early.
There was also a Hollywood flair, as an actress from several popular TV shows, including the West Wing, spoke to the crowd about the importance of voting early.
"This community, in particular, right here in Waterloo, African American community, I would personally like to see them have a claim on it. To give a voice and speak up first," said Anna Deavere Smith.
Early voting starts Friday. Those ballots will remain sealed until the polls close on election night.
