iGreenCR Day was held in downtown Cedar Rapids earlier this morning. iGreenCR is designed to help "green up" the city. Volunteers gathered to help pick up parts of the downtown river area.
iGreenCR is part of a larger initiative called City Manager's One Bag Challenge that challenges citizens of Cedar Rapids to pick up litter and trash lying around the city. So far, the city has collected 1500 bags of trash since the initiative started nine months ago.
A total of seven different neighborhoods were included in the trash pick-up event. Volunteers walked the neighborhoods picking up any trash or debris they found lying around. The goal for the day was to pick up 500 bags of trash and debris to add to the original 1500 bags of trash already collected.
