CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

UNI guard Anthony James has been suspended for the Panthers' first three games for a "violation of team and athletic department policies."  Head coach Ben Jacobson made the announcement on Tuesday morning.  The specifics of James' violation were not released.

"I'm disappointed for Anthony and our team," Jacobson said. "However, the situation has been dealt with and put behind us. We are looking forward to the start of practice."

UNI athletics staff said Jacobson will have no further comment on the matter.

The senior is expected to play a key role for the Panthers in the upcoming season.  As a junior, James led UNI with a 12.5 points per game average.

The Panthers open the exhibition portion of their schedule October 27 against Briar Cliff.
