CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

One man is behind bars, and another one is recovering after a dangerous, overnight chase in Cedar Rapids.

It happened just after midnight at the intersection of E Avenue and 19th street Northeast.

Police say they tried to stop a suspicious vehicle with stolen plates, but the vehicle continued driving.

Eventually the driver lost control and side swiped another vehicle.

Authorities say the suspect, 40-year-old Bret Scheidt then ran, leading police on a short foot chase before being arrested.

The driver of the vehicle that was side-swiped was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. His name has not been released.

Scheidt is facing a number of charges including possession of meth, hit and run causing injury, eluding, and operating while intoxicated.
