UPDATE: Fayette County care facility attack victim dies

FAYETTE (KWWL) -

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says a resident at the Prairie View Residential Care Facility is now charged with murder after an attack on another resident last week.

Deputies were called to the facility at about 12:50 a.m. on Monday for a report of a disturbance.

They says an investigation determined that 35-year-old Matthew Thomas Braun assaulted 57-year-old Kris Allen Simpson.

Simpson, who was originally from West Burlington, was taken to Palmer Hospital before being air lifted to Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The sheriff's office was told on Saturday that Simpson died as a result of his injuries.

Braun, who was originally charged with attempted murder, was charged on Tuesday with first degree murder.  Braun is in the Fayette County Jail and faces life in prison if convicted.
