Loras College to add MBA in business analytics

A big announcement Thursday at Loras College in Dubuque may draw more students and businesses to the area.

Loras College announced it's creating an MBA program focused on business analytics.

Rich Clayton is a Loras graduate helping to create the program. He's the vice president of marketing for the business analytics products of a company called Oracle. He said he got the idea for Loras's new masters program when he noticed a high demand in the business world for people who specialize in data management and analysis.

Loras College president Jim Collins said he believes the program will be attractive to students as well as businesses.

"This allows us to attract even more students to the business program, getting unique skills and having the benefits of better teachers in terms of new industry knowledge," Collins said.

The new program is about more than just a degree, Collins said.

"We'll also be hosting the first ever analytics conference here for the entire nation sometime this coming spring, so that gets industry leaders here to campus, and out of that we hope to have an industry presence here in Dubuque and directly related to Loras," he said, adding the school plans on making the conference an annual event.

The MBA is Loras's fourth masters program. Loras plans to start offering those classes in the summer of 2013.
