State sees little movement of Emerald Ash Borer

The State of Iowa says there has been little movement of the Emerald Ash Borer in the state.

According to Kevin Baskins with the Iowa DNR, the Iowa Emerald Ash Borer Team announced Wednesday that results from surveillance shows the pest, which kills ash trees, has not moved out of Allamakee County where it was first found in 2010.

Baskins says if you live more than 15 miles from known infestation areas, you are discouraged from treating your ash trees with insecticides.  Baskins says some tree care companies are giving out inaccurate information and recommending healthy trees be treated.

The state continues to monitor for the pest and a federal and state quarantine prohibiting the movement of firewood, ash nursery stock and ash timber out of Allamakee County remains in place.  That quarantine has been in place since 2010.
