Algona beats Waverly-Shell Rock

Waverly-Shell Rock bounced back from a season opening loss at top ranked Decorah with a 13-7 victory over Mason City.

Algona lost its season opener to Forest City 29-0 before getting its first win of the season 42-13 over Estherville Lincoln Central.

It was the mighty bulldogs from Algona taking it to the Go-Hawks first. Sawyer Frideres picked up a quick nine yards. 10-plays later and after a pass interference call, Frideres takes the ball in from 11-yards out for the touchdown. The extra point made it 7 - zip Bulldogs in the first quarter.

The Go-Hawks crowd tried to keep their team fired-up and it worked....with a minute left in the first quarter Daniel Stensland picks off a pass from Algona's Quarterback Weston Shaw which stops Algona's drive deep in Waverly's territory.

Only two plays later the Go-Hawks fumble and the Bulldogs captilize with only two running plays to put up their second score of the night.  This time it's Tyler Frideres scoring from 16-yards out making the score 14 to zero Algona.

The Bulldogs run away with this one in the second half. Final Score Algona 34, Waverly-Shell Rock 7.
