A lightning strike on Friday morning damaged College Hall on the Cornell College campus in Mount Vernon.

Jamie Kelly, Director of Media Relations, says lightning hit the cupola on the top of the building at around 3:30 a.m. starting it on fire.

Fire crews from several departments, including Mount Vernon, Lisbon and Cedar Rapids were called in.

Kelly says that the damage was contained to the cupola and attic.  No injuries have been reported.

Classes normally held in College Hall will be moved, but Kelly says locations have not been determined.
