Hawks look to regain one of the rivalry trophies

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The preliminary bouts are out of the way, we go straight to rivalry week in the state of Iowa.

And for the Hawkeyes, a lot of the talk centers around redemption.

Last year, Iowa found itself on the losing end of a triple overtime thriller to Iowa State costing the Hawkeyes the Cy-Hawk trophy.

A loss to Minnesota later in the year would send the Floyd of Rosedale to Minneapolis, the last of 3 traveling trophies to leave Iowa City.

On Saturday afternoon, Iowa will be looking for a chance to regain some hardware.

"Every time you walk by that empty trophy case I think it kind of makes you linger on what could have been or what if, but the bottom line is we didn't make enough plays to win, and we're hoping to change that this weekend," said Iowa quarterback James Vandenberg.

Hawkeye Defensive lineman Dominique Alvis added, "We've been walking past that empty trophy case for, leading up to close to a year now. We've literally had to walk around it as we've tried to get to our lockers, and I think that sends a message to our team. We need to fill that trophy case, quit walking around it, and do something about it."
