Cedar Rapids skywalk project back on track

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Plans to build a skywalk linking the new Cedar Rapids library to a nearby parking garage are back on track after concerns that the structure did not provide enough clearance for a nearby railroad track.

Union Pacific Railroad tells the city that a clearance requirement won't be an issue.

The skywalk goes over some railroad tracks that were renovated earlier this year and raised six inches. That puts the bottom of the skywalk into a 25-foot clearance distance required by the railroad by four inches.

An official says the skywalk is in compliance, and won't need to be redesigned.
