Dubuque parade salutes the working class

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Monday morning, downtown Dubuque came alive with the sights and sounds of the annual Labor Day parade.

Hundreds of people lined up along the mile-long route to participate in a tradition more than 20 years old.

Local unions, political campaigns, marching bands and businesses were among the groups that appeared in the parade.

Bruce Clark is the president of the Dubuque Federation of Labor. He said the parade celebrates Dubuque's rich labor history.

"A big percentage of people in Dubuque are in a union or have someone in their family in a union," Clark said Monday at the parade. "It's a long tradition here and working people here. It's really what's made Dubuque prosper over the years."

The theme of this year's parade was "Salute to the Working Class."
