Unusual spring weather means fewer apples, higher prices

Posted:

If you plan to head to an apple orchard in the next few weeks, you may have fewer choices to pick on those trees.

The drought isn't to blame for the lack of options, but rather, the early April freeze.

Unusually warm weather in March caused trees to bloom earlier than expected, and April's cooler temperatures damaged or destroyed those blooms.

Prices will also be higher at local orchards this year because of the smaller yield of apples this year.
