JOHNSTON (KWWL) -
About 1,000 people crowded into a hall at Camp Dodge in Johnston on Tuesday for a sendoff ceremony for 60 Iowa Army National Guard troops going to Afghanistan.
The soldiers are with the 1034th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, which provides support to other troops.
Before going to Afghanistan, the soldiers will spend about one month at Fort Hood in Texas for training.
The soldiers will then go on a nine-month tour in Afghanistan.
