Cedar Valley Humane Society Second Hand Thrift Store

From clothing to dishes to furniture, there's lots for sale at the Cedar Valley Humane Society Second Chance Thrift Store.

The store is located at 617 Center Point Road Northeast in Cedar Rapids and opened in May.

"All of the revenue comes to the animals at the humane society, so what that does it provides us with a consistent source of revenue," said Jan Clarke with the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

While the store benefits the humane society, it's not just for pet owners.

"Everything you see in the store has been donated to us. So we have some pet supplies, but that's a small part of what we do," said Clarke.

Kurt Noack managers the thrift shop. He has two dogs of his own, and he said the community is rallying behind the store.

"We have a tremendous amount of donations. We have shoppers that come in two to three times a week," said Kurt Noack.

The store is closed Sundays and Mondays.

Through Saturday, August 25th, students showing a school ID get a 25 percent discount on already low prices. Everything from backpacks to shoes.

Humane society staffers said the thrift store is just another way to engage the community in the humane society's mission of helping animals.

"What the shoppers and the donors do is provide a voice to the voiceless, the animals, and the animals appreciate it," said Noack.

The Cedar Valley Humane Society is also having a microchip and vaccination clinic on August 25th. It's from 10 to Noon in the thrift store parking lot. Microchipping is $35, and vaccinations are just $7.
