Event to honor Taylor Morris

Hundreds of people are expected to light up the streets of Cedar Falls in honor of a local sailor Saturday night.

Taylor Morris was badly injured in may after an IED exploded under his feet.

He lost his legs, left arm, and right hand in the blast.

Morris is currently going through therapy at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland.

He's able to walk and use his prosthetic hands for daily tasks.

Saturday night, Morris' friends and family in Cedar Falls are hosting a 5K to support their sailor's recovery.

"It really feels great to know the whole community's got your back on something like this, and that there's someone out there rooting for you," Taylor Morris told KWWL. "That's how we feel. We just wanted to tell you guys, thanks."

"Next year, we plan to come back and run this race with you guys!" Morris' longtime girlfriend Danielle Kelly added.

The event kicks off at 7:30 Saturday night at Washington Park in Cedar Falls.

The race itself starts at 8:30.

Entry fee is $25.

Folks who pre-registered can pick their packets up tonight from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Orchard Hill Church.
