No one was hurt after a Cedar Rapids based semi was hit by a train in Le Mars on Wednesday.

Authorities say the driver of a West Side Transport semi was waiting to make a turn at an intersection Wednesday afternoon, while the trailer was on top of the train track behind the semi.

The driver told police that as the train approached, heavy traffic kept him from moving out of the way, causing the train to clip the back of trailer ripping it open, and causing its contents to spill into a ditch.

The Le Mars Police Department calls the collision a lucky outcome.

"If you have to have an accident with a train, this is about as good as it gets. Nobody got hurt. Trains always win," said Le Mars Police Chief Stu Dekkenga.

Police say they'll know if any citations will be issued after their investigation.
