Coe College unveils old buildings as new dorms

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Today Coe College unveiled renovated apartments that are now student housing.

The college acquired the Hampton Court Apartments in Cedar Rapids last January to accommodate higher student enrollment.

Coe has a residency requirement for all students.

The new properties, located across the street from campus, mean Coe once again has space to house all their students.

The apartments were built in the early 1900s and Coe spent more than $1 million renovating them this summer.

"It's important to us to preserve history whenever possible in buildings," said Rod Pritchard, Director of Marketing and Communications.  "We've really retained their original character while making them into nice facilities for students."

There's 39 new apartment units which will house 80 students.
