CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

One man is safe after an overnight house fire in Cedar Rapids.

It happened early Monday morning just after midnight in the 700 block of Danbury Street NE.

Officials say 29-year-old Leland Harris woke up to a loud noise, and noticed smoke and fire throughout his home.

Fire crews arrived on scene just before 12:15 a.m. and were able to put out the fire, but not before it damaged the first floor.  The basement sustained some water damage.

An investigation found the fire was caused by unattended cooking on a stove top in the kitchen.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury while on duty, but was treated and released.
